Have not written much about it before but figured world aids day it was time to explain and tell us a little about it all. Poppy could not talk properly from the beginning, already at 2 years of control, I asked them to notice and check on it a little extra, but as usual to get to the answer "all children e different, it may take some time." Time my ass I thought, we knew reached huh wrong, world aids day nitrogen, a 2.5-year inspection and also where ignoring the problem. Let it go some month to, then became angry and demanded a referral to a speech therapist. world aids day After somebody month's wait, we finally got some time to our speech therapist, already in the first meeting, she noted that Poppy had problems, it does not really worked. She managed all motor skills exercises so there was no error. She passed the word understanding, and everything else related to words and sentences gallant, besides just the pronunciation. Have received training from the beginning where we practiced sound, mouth, etc., have not done much we consider. world aids day Also went on TAKK courses to help our Poppy, ie learned sign for helping communication, went well in the beginning and Poppy learned quickly world aids day and was able to show us a little clearer when she wanted to reach, but we lost it completely. So on we got an appointment with a specialist in Lund, met her once and was quickly diagnosed with verbal dyspraxia, which our speech therapist already suspected. So what is the verbal dyspraxia.
Verbal Dyspraxia means a disorder of articulation ability, there are problems that willfully produce speech sounds and then assemble them into words - it has thus pronunciation difficulties .. Different sounds are often different good to say depending on where in the word they are, and which sounds more exist in the word. Since time is needed before it works in spontaneous speech. world aids day You may also need to concentrate to hear the voices that are actually part of a word, but it goes to practice.
That children with verbal dyspraxia not "speak pure" world aids day is not because they do not want, they can not! It requires a lot of training before world aids day they can with other children seems so simple and obvious. What it is because world aids day we do not know really. Not on mental retardation, nor a lack of stimulation or that the parents talked baby talk with the children. One theory is that it can be hereditary, and that the children may have difficulty finding world aids day the "program" for performing sound.
But there's much you can do, besides the treatment of speech and language therapist. The most important thing is to listen to what children say! Not object to their speech, but concentrate on what they have to say rather than how they say it. This does not mean neglecting their speech problems, but the most important thing is that the kids at all want to talk! To practice their pronunciation can be done in different ways, but discontinue them not to correct them. The risk is that they then lose the desire to even say anything, because it's never good enough ... Instead one can make a "passive correction," ie, repeating the word correctly without pointing out the error. If the child for example, say "stagnant ice is dead" repeat "yes, sure is good candy". Pretend never that you do not understand what the child says if you actually understand it. Treat the child, your interlocutor, with respect. Think about how you want to be treated when talking to others.
Have an m lucky so let the problem world aids day until she e 7-8 years with the help of lots of training and assistance, not ignorance and questioning people. In order to continue world aids day helping Poppy, we have decided that she should go with another speech therapist, world aids day she we had in Landskrona admitted she did not know how to work on, so an appointment with one of the best in the area in Helsingborg, world aids day we will meet 1-2 months, and then hope to get proper help. We have also been contacted by logopedmotagningen here in Hbg as we possibly going to put her in the language nursery school, where the children can go four days a week, 6 hours a day, they meet there daily speech therapists and other skilled personnel to continuously train and exercise. So we're going to interview 21 to see if she can be admitted, they take namely only received 7 children per semester.
This is hard for all of us, Poppy gets sad when no one understands, ignore it and go, even though she has so much to tell. We become tired and frustrated which ends in that we can not be bothered to listen sometimes or energy to try to understand. Fortunately, we have a girl who does not give up too quickly without dryers despite the tears a smart little lady.
