The gynecologist Pascal Manga Okenge expects other women from Lukando, a town 60 km from the provincial capital of Maniema. He indicated that these patients were treated for fistula caused epi pen by prolonged and unmonitored and caesarean deliveries performed incorrectly.
One fistula cases involving rape was recorded on 11 women already treated, according to the team of doctors. The latter was a complicated case, that of a woman with a sagging vulva where anal and vaginal tract communicate after childbirth. She was also treated successfully.
These women are kept in hospital between two weeks and three months, depending on the case. This is the Catholic NGO Caritas development that ensures their care as part of its "Access to primary health care" funded by DFID agency. After treatment, these women will have some financial means to show that their income-generating activities.
