The Department of Public Health (IDPH) today launched an education campaign, nationally, on preventing the spread of Clostridium udima difficile, also known as C.diff, sometimes fatal bacteria that causes symptoms ranging from diarrhea to severe inflammation of the colon and intestines, which can be fatal.
Illinois Campaign to Eliminate C.difficile (ICE C.diff) will implement programming to educate workers of hospitals and health care personnel on preventing the spread of C. diff. Illinois was one of 15 sponsored by the Centers udima for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to implement programming for preventing C.diff states.
The C.diff bacteria is usually spread from person to person through contaminated surfaces or unwashed hands of medical staff, patients and visitors. The most dangerous source of pollution are patients with diarrhea. As part of this campaign, IDPH is associated with IFMC-IL, the quality improvement organization in the state to offer a series of "webinars" education for health care workers on C.diff udima from March 13 next three regional workshops for teams of health workers in the Chicago area, Illinois Central, and Southern udima Illinois.
