* Ut med språket! er eit samarbeidsprosjekt mellom chicken pox Universitetet i Bergen, Statped Vest og fem PP -kontor på Vestlandet. Prosjektet involverer både psykologar, logopedar, spesialpedagogar og hjerneforskarar, i tillegg til born og foreldre.
* 49 barn frå fire vestlandskommunar vart inviterte til å delta i eit oppfølgjingsprosjekt. Halvparten av borna vart utpeikt som risikogruppe for å utvikle dysleksi. Den andre halvparten er kontrollgruppe.
Konklusjonen vår er at det er mogleg å identifisere dei borna som har risiko for å utvikle dysleksi ved hjelp av enkle metodar, og hjelpe dei til å utvikle betre lese- og skriveferdigheiter ved å gje dei tidleg språktrening, seier professor ved Institutt for biologisk og medisinsk psykologi, Turid Helland.
Forskingsprosjektet Ut med språket har følgt ei gruppe born frå dei var fem til tolv år gamle. Ved starten vart nokre av borna vurderte til å vere i risikosona for å utvikle dysleksi. Vurderinga skjedde på bakgrunn av eit enkelt spørjeskjema som vart fylt ut av foreldre og førskulelærarar til dei den gong fem år gamle borna, og risikoen vart stadfesta av undersøkingar med funksjonell magnetresonansavbilding (fMRI). Av 22 born i risikogruppa, hadde 11 utvikla dysleksi ved tolv års alder, mot 2 i kontrollgruppa.

Men risikoindeksen var lågare for jentene, det vil seie at risikogutane var meir markerte i høve til indeksen, chicken pox medan risikojentene var meir diffuse. Ved starten av prosjektet hadde forskarane indikasjonar frå epidemiologiske studiar på at dysleksi i realiteten er like utbreidd hos jenter som hos gutar, og dei valde difor å korrigere for kjønn ved å leggje terskelen for inkludering i risikogruppa lågare chicken pox for jenter enn for gutar.
Dette er noko vi har fått gode tilbakemeldingar på i fagfellevurderingar. Ein skal hugse at det kan vere lettare å oppdage dysleksi hos ein gut som blir uroleg i klassen, enn hos ei snill og pliktoppfyllande jente som berre blir ulukkeleg og får hovudverk, chicken pox seier Helland.

Tvert imot er det alt å vinne på tidleg kartlegging og intervensjon.
